Positive thinking, neuro-linguistic programing, interesting activities that keep one busy, breathing techniques, yoga, meditation and so on will do the trick when it comes to reducing the level of anxiety. It is also worth mentioning the fact that the symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder are more intense during certain moments of the day or on some days of the week.

People suffering from generalized anxiety disorder have all the chances of recovery if the right treatment or approach to the ailment is taken. However, there are cases of patients who remain trapped in the vicious circle for years on end, either because of the incorrect choice of therapy or because they cannot put into practice the techniques they learn in therapy sessions. Therefore, individual factors such as determination, self-awareness, perseverance in finding a treatment will significantly contribute to the level of mental health.

Insightful hub. Sounds like you got solid info, and a little common sense to boot. I think medicine is often not the answer and should be a last resort after the techniques you mentioned and three others: I banished near-suicidal depression from my life years ago when a pastor started teaching me and taught me to have confidence in myself and I learned to pray. Having someone hold your hand through the process of healing is often not an option for people. People who need to get better have to want to get better. But praying to God is the biggest help.

There are definite alternative ways of dealing with mental problems, and you have done a good job explaining that without putting me to sleep! I like your clear writing style.

I have the same symtoms like pain on the chest,shortness of breath and more.

My doctor said that i have hyperventilation.I have tried so many things but i haven't try this yet.So i'm going to try this.Tanks for this article.

I appreciate your closing words that self awareness and persistence are important when experimenting with ways to reduce anxiety. Finding a coach or mentor to offer support and direction can really help in this regard.

Anxiety can be very confusing and having someone by your side to remind you to keep going and keep trying can really help. Especially if that coach is knowledgeable about self help techniques and can help you apply them.
